A rapidly growing and very successful web based services company.

Our Brief

We were asked to evaluate and build the effectiveness of the senior management team (SMT) and facilitate them to review, update and support a revised business strategy. The business had grown rapidly ad profitably over the last three years from its start up by its two founders. There was an urgent need to resolve serious disagreements between some of the SMT and to gain commitment to a new strategy and business priorities.

Our Approach

We discussed the issues with one of the founders and developed a detailed facilitated work programme for the SMT to take place over two days (awaydays) at an off-site location.

The awaydays were designed to flush out the root causes of the disagreements openly and frankly, to identify all team issues that impeded progress and to develop and commit to an agreed action plan to take the business forward.

The awaydays were facilitated by one of BlueSpark’s partners who is experienced in facilitating and building team effectiveness in senior and other teams.

Our Achievements

The awaydays successfully confronted and dealt with not only the known problems but also identified a number of previously unnoticed issues that blocked the team from delivering further success for the business. The SMT were subsequently able to take a number of tools and techniques learnt during the days and successfully apply them in day to day operations. Relationships were re-built and the experience convinced one director that his future lay elsewhere; the right result for the business and for him personally.

The business has gone to achieve further growth and profitability and has retained BlueSpark to facilitate further events. To date we have assisted them with the following successful additional awaydays:

• Follow up for SMT to consolidate and build further on success of first awayday
• Branding and prioritisation of enhancements to the functionality of the web site
• Team effectiveness building for the Support and Administration team to enable them to deal with growing volumes with out a proportionate growth in headcount.
